On the 24th of May, local fashionistas and aspiring fashion-gurus were treated to a sneak peek of this season’s hottest (and coziest) trends – think classy and comfy all in one, and to top it all off a night shopping spree!

West Acres Shopping Centre’s slogan isn’t “bringing the community together” for nothing they went all out and brought the Potch fashionistas together on their annual West Acres Winter Fashion Show. They hosted a spectacular Winter Fashion Show to show off to the community some of the incredible pieces and wintery gems to be found hidden in their fashion, accessory and shoe stores this season. “The event was a campaign to serve as a reminder of the fact that West Acres is home to a myriad of stores offering every season’s must-have items, and shouldn’t be forgotten during wardrobe restocking. It also shows the Potch community that everyone, no matter the size and shape, can look absolutely beautiful in the right outfits!” said Juanita Greyling (West Acres Marketing Manager).

The show was a roaring success and swarming with eager shoppers who buzzed around the centre enjoying some late-night shopping, winter warming treats served by the Johannesburg Culinary and Pastry School, and the acoustic tunes strummed out by local three-piece, After Hours. Guests at the show were also treated big time by the participating stores, with all the discounts and vouchers they could need to perfect their winter wardrobe.

The Creative Arts Theatre also made an appearance on the West Acres stage with an explosive hip-hop piece to kick-start the excitement and serve as an awesome start to the show, which was hosted by the ever-lively theatre man, Chris Steyn.

When the models representing the participating stores took on the catwalk, the audience was treated to sights of gorgeous coats, sweater dresses, denim, hats, scarves and boots galore. Rage, Pick n Pay Clothing, Miladys, Contempo, PEP, Top Fashion, Venter Jewellers, Simply Shoes and Monique Talita Couture featured items of all styles and for all ages (and the little models were adorable!) “It was such a great night, not only fabulous but financial worth it as well. We doubled our daily target. We want West Acres to do this every season!,” said Debra Rheeders (Rage Marketing Manager) with joy.

The models, whose hair was done by The Little Hair Village, Harold’s Classic Barber and makeup by Olive Hill House of Beauty, were all volunteers straight from the Potchefstroom community – and came in all shapes and sizes. The shopping centre wanted to send out a strong message: “You don’t have to be a super slim model to look like one. Anyone could rock these outfits and look absolutely gorgeous this winter, no matter how big or small, tall or short they may be,” said Dalena Odendaal (West Acres Chief Executive Officer).

The guests enjoyed every moment of the evening and couldn’t stop talking about the remarkable food, fashion, shops, gifts and vibe. “This is truly an amazing initiative and something different than just an average fashion show. I can’t think of anything better than night shopping, well done West Acres,” said Augusta Le Roux one of the guests.

Prizes and gifts were sponsored by Zig Mart, Clicks, Spec-Savers, Body Fuel, Blommemark, Tuisgenot, PEP, Milk, Top Fashion, La Fontana Perfumes, Montagu, August Photography, Lifestyle Computers/Cell and Feisty Communications and Marketing Specialists. The first prize was given to the best-dressed man, Christiaan Wessels. “When you shop always shop for outfits,” said Christiaan with self-confidence. The second prize was given to the best-dressed woman, Elizna van der Merwe, who wore long boots, jeans and a stunning top. The third prize was given to the best-dressed couple and a few lucky draws gave everyone a fair chance to win big.

West Acres would like to thank each participating store, sponsor and guest for being part of the West Acres Winter Fashion Show. “Without each and every one of you, the fashion show would not have been a possibility.
